hey, ever thought about winning was just as important if not more than stupid points or kdr?

it makes me wonder how you guys were able to play 1942 without your pts and kdr being tracked.

Thats a pretty odd advice. Just because I like to kill and think KDR is a better thing to pursue than "points", doesnt mean I have to drop the game that *I like*. For what its worth, Im always at the flags, defending and capturing them. But I dont need a score or points to keep me doing that, I dont need a carrot on a stick, which apparently you do.

I think we all have good Pro's and Con's points here:salute:.Thanks for the clean debate:thumbsup:

I read somewhere that prone was no good on consoles because the low DPI on consoles,So if anyone was prone on the screen they would become a very small dot.The post i read from someone else said this was the real reason prone was not added. But PC's have much greater resolutions over consoles

I do agree there are more bushes and buildings to hide in:),You can fire a sniper rifle in crouch position but not a support gun though:hmm:

I personally think that most BF players look at more than just K/D ratio's. In order to win a game of BF you need to work as a team therefore just killing lots of people isn't enough to gain a victory. Like you say L4D encourages teamplay (I've never played it) so there are games that don't consider K/D ratio's that important. That being said I go back to my suggestion that giving more points for teamwork rather than K/D ratio (Which lets face it is what the sniper class is about) might discourage players from camping all the time. I think its a better alternative than having no prone in the game anyway.

Consider the attacker-defender balance when you have enterable buildings and so many more objects scattered around the environment before you jump aboard the prone bandwagon.

I'm not trying to argue with you. We've obviously just misunderstood each other. Either way DICE have never said it was a campfest or that EVERBODY was camping just that some people were and it slowed the game down.

Here's what David Goldfarb said "there will be no prone.. we tried it many times and decided it didn't feel right for the dynamic, destructible world we made."

If you played the console versions of BC and 1943 you would already know that people will camp regardless of whether they can prone or not. Its the fact they want to be a sniper. The class itself encourages camping.

If you look at MAG they have a totally different points system which is more focused on team play. K/D ratio's are usually a lot lower than BF and winning the round means helping your team not just endlessly killing soldiers. So I do think that gamers want more than K/D ratio even if you don't. If you want that then go play Quake or something.

Heres the simple rundown. DICE said prone slowed the game pace down on consoles (aswell as adding a number of technical issues like not being able to see the players because of low-res). Consoles have fewer players, yes. The fact that PC will have more players is common sense and old news. The fact that PC will have more players should by default be an argument for prone as you will find enough people to go for action anyway.

They never said anything about a campfest and this problem has nothing to do with the speed of the game (gameplay might be a better word).
"Campfest" was a simplified term. They said everyone was using prone to camp and this slowed the game down.

Make the maps smaller or more built up - This keeps the battles close together and makes it less favourable to be a sniper as buildings get in the way. I'm not fond of really small maps but it is an alternative.
You dont have to make the maps smaller. You just have to set a few flags strategically closer to each other to condense the action. Making maps smaller is not a great solution. Try flanking in COD4 on Overgrown with 5 vs 5, then do the same with 25 vs 25.

Get rid of the sniper class - This would end most of the camping problem but I like sniping as I'm sure a lot of other people do.
I love playing sniper, occasionally. And BFBC2 M24 action from the videos was badass.

Less points for kills and more for teamwork - Battlefield has always encouraged team play. Now make even more important and give more points for team related actions and less points for kills. Less reason to be a sniper if you want to do well on the scoreboard.
Points dont solve a thing. When Im in a game, its not the points Im after, its the KDR. If you want people to focus on objectives, get rid of the scorescreen altogether. But this will just make most of the public players mad.

I dont see it as a huge problem, will have to see when it comes to the public.

If the weapons are accurate and deadly enough (CoD4) to deal with insta-proning tossers then yeah, add it.

I think your misunderstanding the problem. You see BC2 on consoles is limited to 24 players so if you have a few people camping then there isn't very many people left to take the flags or whatever game mode your playing. With the PC there is a bigger player count so a few people camping doesn't matter as much. They never said anything about a campfest and this problem has nothing to do with the speed of the game (gameplay might be a better word). Basically they want to keep more people fighting rather than lying in a bush waiting for someone to walk past their sights. You still get people camping in BC and 1943 so this didn't "solve" the problem of the speed of gameplay.

There are a couple of solutions that doesn't mean prone has to be omitted:

Increase the player count - I think this is the best solution as it makes everyone happy :). I was suprised to see that the PC version didn't have prone because of the larger player count and its kinda funny that there now seems to be a lot more people complaining about prone.

Make the maps smaller or more built up - This keeps the battles close together and makes it less favourable to be a sniper as buildings get in the way. I'm not fond of really small maps but it is an alternative.

No it wasn't. There are plenty times I wish I could go prone in BC1. It's going to be worse in BC2 when you can't hide behind anything for too long.
